GYROKINESIS® exercises are a 90-minute mat format complement to GYROTONIC® and other practices such as Pilates and yoga. The GYROKINESIS® method systematically and gently works the joints and muscles through a series of rhythmic exercises and incorporates many key principals from yoga, dance, swimming and tai-chi.

Gyrokinesis & YogaA GYROKINESIS® session works the entire body through seven natural elements of spinal movement: flexion, extension, lateral flexion right, lateral flexion left, rotation right, rotation left and undulation. The combination of these movements stimulate the body's internal organs and nervous system, open up energy pathways and oxygenate the blood. Fluidity is key to the GYROKINESIS® movements. Postures are not held for long periods of time. Instead, postures are smoothly and harmoniously connected through the use of different breath patterns.
Classes begin with participants seated on low stools, breathing and massaging their own muscles. The focus moves to the spine through a series of arching, bending, twisting and spiraling movements. These same fluid movement patterns are expanded to release the hips, knees, hamstrings and quadriceps in all possible directions. Ultimately the GYROKINESIS® movements will invigorate and re-educate the body to move in a more fluid, relaxed and powerful manner. GYROKINESIS® is appropriate for all ages and fitness levels.

YOGA

EPY Center offers a Hatha yoga which employs vinyasa-flow as well as static postures. The 75 minute class targets intermediate level practitioners and has emphasis on breathing and strengthening postures. The class reinforces basic yoga principles including breath control (pranayama), and fundamental postures (asanas) and incorporate Vinyasa yoga. The Vinyasa style  is a dynamic version of yoga practice with poses linked into flowing sequences that build strength and endurance, coordinated with the breath.
