From the word "gyro" (meaning ring, spiral or circle) and "tonic" (to tone or invigorate), GYROTONIC® training helps to increase range of motion, coordination, and strength by performing prescribed graceful, circular motions.
The GYROTONIC® methodology embraces some of the key principles also found in yoga, swimming, gymnastics and ballet. The GYROTONIC® equipment facilitates total freedom of movement and tempo of exercise so that the body can focus on coordination, strength and flexibility without interference from the machine.
The uniqueness of the System is that it simultaneously stretches and strengthens the body in a three dimensional plane with minimal effort, while increasing range of motion and developing coordination. Special attention is given to moves that increase the functional capacity of the spine, resulting in a superior and well-proportioned body, which is significantly less prone to injuries.
Each exercise is synchronized with a corresponding breathing pattern and is performed with either a rhythm or melodic rhythmical expression, creating a gentle or vigorous cardiovascular-aerobic stimulation, depending on the intensity and speed of the execution. The results are supple, powerful, lean, and coordinated muscles.
